Inspired by the beautifully rich flora & fauna of the Indian River Lagoon Estuary, the architectural materiality of the Spanish-colonials & florida crackers and with the history of graceful living as a pretext, the plank wood flooring collection from Sawyer & Southern defines a 'raw, but refined' aesthetic with a line of exquisite wood flooring, perfect for the well-appointed home. Our Florida-based design studio collaborates with interesting known & budding designers, artists, artisans and manufacturers throughout the world, who produce top-quality & inspiring work. The philosophy is deeply rooted in the past's craftsmanship, content & style, while also employing new technology to refine both material and construction. The more rare the ability or material, the more interesting the exploration and assuredly, the outcome. Sawyer + Southern's planke collection features a clean, aesthetic grade of old growth european oak and american walnut, engineered for maximum stability and numerous indoor environments. Our oak is produced in a generous and consistent plank width of 8-5/8” by lengths of 7’3”, with a 6” width by 6’1”length for our walnut. All wood species and styles within the planke wood flooring & wall-cladding collections are developed and finished with natural, oxidative protego hard-wax oils in three (3) protective coats. This method is hand-applied by skilled finishing crafters. The manufacturer recommends that a final protective coat of protego hard-wax oil is applied after installation to ensure sealing of the floor and providing it with maximum protection. At the very minimum, the floor should be cleaned immediately after installation using only protego natural soap. If the recommended final coat is applied after installation, then the cleaning using protego natural soap should be completed after waiting a minimum of at least 48 hours. Produced under a patented danish formula, protego is a penetrating, hardening oil with all-natural ingredients and zero voc. Its finish has superior protection against water-spotting and is so safe that it meets en 71-3, a european child-safety standard 'for use on toys'. The core of the planke wood flooring collection is divided into styles featuring european oak in a brushed surface with a ceruse appearance, alongside a second special style of european oak that has been hand-torched, hand-brushed, and hand-sculpted in the manner of the lovely japanese technique of shou sugi ban.
