Hachmann's Custom Building

Hachmann Custom Building built our house as a design/build project. They did the drawings, the engineering and the building. Stan, Abe and their entire crew were a delight to work with and the entire experience was excellent -- from the initial meetings, throughout the planning process and all during the actual build. They were on-time, on budget, very accommodating and brought excellent ideas and perspective to us throughout the entire process. The quality of their work speaks for itself. We are completely thrilled with the end product. My most telling compliment to them is that I felt that they built our house "as if they were building their own house". I highly recommend them.

The construction of our home took place while we were residing in another state. Therefore, it was critical that our contractor be reliable and possess excellent communication skills. Of course we expected construction of the highest quality. Hachmann's Custom Building exceeded our expectations. HCB worked with us from the very beginning, establishing a solid set of plans that truly expressed our vision. We received frequent updates on the construction progress with tons of pictures. On several occasions during construction HCB offered design change recommendations that greatly enhanced the interior of our home, most notable being the vaulted sections of ceiling in the kitchen/dining and master bath areas. The timber frame design required much more "finish carpentry" than a conventional design. The joinery is of the highest quality. We would like to add that the subcontractors employed meet HCB high standards.

Hachmann Custom Building built our home in Chafee County, Colorado. It is a very unique house, with many features and a style and structure that is not common in the area. I seriously doubt that there is another builder in central Colorado who could have successfully constructed this house, and certainly not with the degree of quality and precision that Stan and Abe achieved. They embrace and surmount technical challenges, rather than backing away from them. They do most of the work with their own permanent crew: foundation, structure and framing and finish carpentry, and these folks are very skilled. We used challenging materials: insulated concrete form construction all the way up for the external walls, and the house is square and plumb to 1/2 inch, as verified by later contractors who installed our window treatments and a residential elevator. The Hachmanns simply take far more care of the details than any other construction firms we have dealt with. They are committed to giving the customer what he wants. They are certainly prepared to offer advice on what works best, particularly on the kinds of details that a homeowner does not pay much attention to, but in the end they will build it the way you want it. There are other builders in the area who want to stick with a particular style or standard set of features. When you look at Hachmann's recent projects you will be struck by their versatility. Abe, who is taking over the business, is a degreed Engineer. I was quite pleased to have someone with those credentials supervising the construction of our house. They have continued to work with us to maintain the house. In summary, I can recommend Hachmann's Custom Building without reservation.

We signed a design contract with Hachmann on 5/2013 for the production of plans on a mutually agreed upon timeline with a breakground date of 3/2015. We subsequently signed a build contract. The design contract provided that the cost of the house would not exceed $600,000 or $200/sq ft. What was provided was contrary to the representations reflected in their Website. Communication/Response to inquiries was slow or non-existant. Standard excuse was "I'm really busy". Whenever we meet we would always ask if we were "still under $600,000". We were assured everytime that we were. After 15 months and no revamps of the initial plans, the cost estimate came in $75,000 over the $600,000 mutually agreed upon top for the 2775 sq. ft. house. When we expressed our great disappointment we were told that we should have expected this. The senior Hachmann is only involved to a minor extent. It was heavily hinted that there were numerous people waiting in line for our "build slot". After spending in excess of $8000 for design work we mutually agreed to terminate the relationship before he broke ground and were faced with even greater disappointments. If you enter into an agreement with them make sure that there is an agreed upon timeline with penalties for not meeting them and penalties for not responding to Emails and phone messages in a timely manner (less than four weeks). Otherwise we fear that you will be share our infinite disappointment with these folks.
