Completely Untrustworthy Anne & Chris Lawrence (of NPK Properties LLC / Blue House Properties) were the general contractors on a remolded house we recently bought from them in Highland Park. My experience with them has lead me to conclude that they are not only extremely difficult to work with but absolutely untrustworthy. Do not fall for Chris’s charade of being a local professional dedicated to your service, he is only interested in getting paid and running away with your money. The greatest testament to their professional behavior came after we had paid them their full asking price. Shortly after which, Chris and Anne became completely unresponsive. There were multiple days were Chris did not show up to complete items that he committed to completing. As I write this, Chris still has not completed a number of items on the punch list or delivered on items specified in our contract. Worst of all, Chris and Anne are in possession of some of our personal property that they are refusing to give us back. Lastly, since moving in we have had to hire another contractor to fix a number of frankly careless mistakes that Chris has made. Perhaps we should have known better dealing with them as the process of completing the house was a nightmare. As you will see, Chris handles the actually work while Anne is the ‘business’ liaison. Sadly, this means that nothing that Chris says can be taken on his word and there were a number of times where Chris would commit to installing items, fixing issues or delivering projects by specific dates only for us to be told by Anne that this was not possible or would be additional costs when Chris said the items were included in the purchase price. The communication between Chris and Anne was broken at best and it was near impossible to move forward on issues as they never seemed to be on the same page (Chris completely abdicated responsibility a number of times). As you can imagine, when dealing with the legal side of buying a house this quickly turned into a quagmire as documentation regarding agreements was ignored. In fact, right before closing, Chris and Anne added unexplained charges to the purchase price and basically strong-armed us into paying them. I highly recommend that if you are looking for a trustworthy contractor that you look elsewhere.
