Fab 4 Modern Designs

This project came about when we were looking to have someone remove wallpaper from 2 bathrooms and paint the walls. It quickly morphed into the complete demo of 3 bathrooms, mud room, breakfast nook and kitchen. We looked at several different showrooms for ideas, but could not figure out what to do. When we met with Rob Male, owner of Kitchen Art of New England, there was a connection. His showroom was lovely, and his first step was to meet with us in our home. We knew that he had the skills that we needed. Part one of the project was the 2 upstairs bathrooms. In short order, he came up with a plan that met our needs. Execution of the plan went well, with the results exceeding our expectations. His master carpenter who is part of his staff is excellent to work with (and is a perfectionist). The external sub contractors (plumbers, electricians, tiler) were all skilled craftsmen and respectful of our space. Part two of the project was the downstairs. This took more time and effort on Rob's part to come up with a design, as it is a larger space, with more potential for change. My husband and I were having a hard time deciding exactly what we wanted, but Rob was patient and put a lot of thought and time into making a plan that "wowed" us. Once he gave us the final drawings, we couldn't wait to get started! He took our existing space (builders grade cabinets that were 24 years old; laminate counters; no island) and redesigned it with a large island with seating area, tons of storage space, and beautiful cabinets. He used cabinetry that complimented our new, customs windows, and fit in with our lifestyle. There were a few points were we got stuck in the design process, but Rob listened to our concerns and came up with solutions that met our needs. He stayed within our budget, using semi-custom Medallion cabinets, and chose those that would be most flexible for storage. There were some items that were important to us, like gorgeous pulls and knobs (Schaub), special granite (Costa Smerelda Rose), and an accent tile backsplash behind the hood. We also wanted to turn a back hallway into a mudroom. Chris (master carpenter on staff at Kitchen Art) designed a lovely bench, with coat rack over it, that fit in perfectly with the kitchen. Results are extraordinary. We are delighted with the results. The process was reasonably painless. I had expected major inconveniences for a couple of months to execute the plan, but again, his staff minimized disruption as much as possible (i.e. - loss of washing machine and dryer was only a few days). I should mention that in the middle of this, our dog required major surgery and we needed to take a 2 month delay between the bathrooms and the kitchen project; Rob was totally understanding. Another point that earned Rob a 5 star rating is that he gives a lot of personal attention throughout the project, with regular visits to our home to keep tabs on the work going on. He also went to the granite fabricator (Ripano Stoneworks, LTD) with me to look at stone, and then again to pick paint colors to go with the stone. He and his staff spent numerous hours assisting me in choices for mirrors, cabinet hardware, lighting and counter stools. He always responded to phone calls and emails quickly, which was very important to us. We felt that we had his full attention from start to finish on the project.

We hired Kitchen Art to do a complete remodel of our downstairs kitchen, bathroom, and side entry hallway, which involved gutting and replacing everything in those rooms. It included new tile floors, cabinets, counter tops, lighting/electrical, plumbing, etc. We are very happy with the final result! We had considered 6 different companies for the job, and picked Kitchen Art based on their level of service, the fact that they cover all aspects of the job from initial design through completion of the project, and ability to help us design our dream kitchen. We didn't fully know what we wanted at the start, but after a few back and forth discussions with Rob he presented us with an overall design that wowed us on the spot. Rob, Kathy, and Chris continued to help us with each of the many decisions as the job progressed. We also added other items into the job as it progressed, such as fixing up a couple issues we had in the surrounding rooms, and they were very accommodating in adding in the additional tasks. Kitchen Art managed all the subcontractors and schedule. There were a few delays and other minor glitches that came up over time, as can be expected on any large project, but we were happy with how they handled and fixed any concerns we had. The carpenter, Chris, did great work throughout the project and stayed late a few days to get things done when needed. The end result of the project was a remodeled downstairs for our house that met the look and functionality we wanted better than we could have described at the start. The quality was great as well, and we've had a large number of compliments on it already.
