White Slate Studio LLC

I was referred to White Slate studio from a neighbor who had just completed a kitchen renovation. Since this was during Covid, I merely peered into her kitchen from outside and I was blown away. The space was transformed. The overall space had been segregated with the placement of a beautiful rug, intrigue was created by her selection of chairs that were compatible with the table, but weren’t designed to “match,” and sophistication was added by a custom-made bench that fit perfectly into a nook. As I marveled over the transformation, my reoccurring thought was: “Wow! That is so simple, but I would never have thought of that!” As one who has designed all of our previous renovations, I hadn’t had much experience working with interior designers but given my reaction to my neighbor’s project, (“Wow! That is so simple, but I would never have thought of that!”) I decided to ask Julie and Rachel to take a look at our upstairs hall bathroom. This was the one room in our house we hadn’t yet renovated and it sorely needed it. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with that decision. From beginning to end – every step of the way they were an absolute pleasure to work with. Not only did they listen to my thoughts and concerns, they actually came in UNDER budget! And since budget was a major factor in this project, there wasn’t much leeway to begin with. They worked so closely with the contractor, communicating all my preferences and preferred timelines. The result was a project that was completed on time and up to standards that were even higher than my own; a beautiful bathroom, complete with accessories, towels and framed artwork. They even purchased containers for the vanity drawers and filled them cotton balls, cue tips, hand towels and other essentials. They thought of everything! The bottom line is that Julie and Rachel treated my bathroom renovation as if it was theirs, giving it unparalleled attention to detail and dedication. The before and after photos below say it all. The fish prints and framed algae prints were all hand done by them. I would highly recommend them for their vision, their understanding of their client’s needs, and their commitment to their work, not to mention their great taste and design sense.

At the beginning of the pandemic, we made a quick decision to move our family of 4 out of our 2 bed in Manhattan and buy a big house by the beach that we could all be comfortable in. Although we were excited about all the space we would have, it would be a lot to fill in a short period of time. We felt completely overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start until we found White Slate Studios. During my initial conversation with Julie, I got a really good sense that she truly understood our vision and could execute quickly. My husband and I have pretty strong opinions when it comes to our style. Julie and Rachel did an amazing job of taking that all in and weaving our taste for modern into the more classic style of the house, all while keeping it all very functional, even creating great playspaces for our young children. When they were done, our new house truly felt like the comfortable home we had envisioned.

We worked with White Slate Studio when we moved across the country into our current home. Because of the timeline for our move, some of the construction happened before we arrived, and we had to select things quickly, and often remotely—talk about pressure! But we completely trusted White Slate Studio, and they made the process so enjoyable. They were incredibly thoughtful and professional as we consulted on choosing materials and hardware (lighting, paint colors, kitchen backsplash etc.) and then all the soft finishes over time (furniture choices, rugs, bar stools, couch etc.) around the house. The special touches are what we love most: the kitchen bar front and bedroom headboard made from salvaged wood from a barn in our family’s lifelong neighborhood. We’ve lived in our home for four years, and still adore everything White Slate Studio curated for us and helped us select to make our home feel classy, while effortlessly fitting our intentionally slow and playful lifestyle with two small children. Our guests always give our house glowing compliments and say they feel “at home” here—the best!

Furnishing and designing a new home can be a stressful activity -- the logistics are endless not to mention the creativity and talent required to actually make it all look great. You can multiply that stress by 100x in 2020. Nothing this year has been seamless or simple to execute. And yet, Julie and Rachel made the process easy and delightful. They designed and project managed renovations before we moved in like new flooring and hardware that completely elevated the overall feel of the home and they sourced every piece down to the mugs in our cupboards and crayons in the play area. They clicked-in to our style immediately and every design choice they made felt like us, only better. They outdid themselves on the thoughtful organizational details. I really could go on and on. If you're looking for a design team who are super talented, authentically care about their clients and can truly do it all, you should look no further than White Slate Studio.

Working with White Slate Studios was an incredibly positive experience that delivered results we are absolutely thrilled with. White Slate Studio was the interior decorator for our newly built modern farmhouse – they choose all furniture and accessories, many fixtures, and much of the artwork. Our vision for the space was inspired by a photo of a room on Instagram. We provided them the photo, shared our tight budget with them, and they got to work. They took that little photo as a starting point and created space that is everything we envisioned and much more! During the planning process, White Slate listened to our ideas and then built on our ideas and expanded on them to create a space that is warm and inviting, yet uncluttered and simple. Throughout our interactions, they were pleasant to work with, efficient, and responsive. From the beautiful tear-sheets they would email us with different options, to their willingness to make changes if we had other ideas, to their ability to deliver products on-time and exactly as promised, we were impressed through and through. Once the house construction was complete, White Slate Studio delivered and installed all the furniture and accessories and all artwork and arranged vases with fresh cut flowers to welcome us to our new beautiful home on our move in day! It could not have been easier from our perspective! We cannot wait to work with them again on future house projects!

White Slate Studio’s design team is beyond compare. Designers Julie Sanford and Rachel Pappas were able to take my ideas and transform them into realities. There was no detail too small for them to thoughtfully execute. From the initial meeting to the design execution stage, the designers made the project stress free. Aside from their design acumen, the designers were highly communicative, extremely efficient, and very personable. It was paramount that the space be functional, and they did a superb job making the space stunningly beautiful, but still a workable space. This was not an easy task. They treated this project as if they were designing their own homes, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or result. I highly recommend White Slate Studio!

I have worked with White Slate Studio professionally on a few occasions - each project has been unique, inspiring, and creatively charged. Julie and Rachel have an innate sense of how to create modern interiors with a personal and relaxed atmosphere. They make it look effortless, but to see the time and work that goes into each project behind the scenes is truly remarkable! They manage their time extremely well and meet deadlines without fail. The White Slate Studio team is one of the most creative and versatile I have come across. Not only do they have an incredible design and styling eye but they have the skill set to be able to create custom furniture and custom artwork on the spot where needed. We first approached Julie and Rachel when we were under contract to buy our new home. We had no idea where to even start with how we wanted the layout of our home to be- nevermind colors, design, style, custom pieces, décor, etc., and we were feeling completely overwhelmed until White Slate showed us how they could help. The White Slate team came to the home with us a couple of times, we talked through some ideas on how we could use our space, and worked with Julie and Rachel to create a vision board based on photos that represented our vision for our home. They pulled together a beautiful, professional presentation for us with their ideas based on our conversations which gave us a really good feel for how our space would be designed. They came to our old home and we showed them a few pieces which we had wanted to re-purpose, which they were able to. Aside from asking for our approval on some major items, the White Slate team took our visions and ran with it on their own. From start to finish, they made the process easy, seamless, and fun. What the White Slate team created in our new home was beyond what we could have imagined. They were able to take our visions and provide style, spaces, and uses we didn’t even realize we wanted (or were possible). Every inch is tailored to fit our needs perfectly, and we are so happy with all the beautiful and articulate detail in our new home. Julie and Rachel are experts who love what they do and it beams through their work. They truly thought of everything, and it’s very apparent how much care and intention went into every aspect. We couldn’t have been happier with the entire process and the final product, and would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat!

My wife and I began talking with Rachel from White Slate in mid-2019 while we were in the process of remodeling our beach condo in St. Augustine, FL. Rachel ended up designing 98% of our house and we are in love with it!!! We were able to show her a few ideas and themes that we had in mind for the place and she was able to run with these ideas and created a space that we are constantly showing off. White Slate was super easy to work with, very professional, and the end result was above our expectations.
