The owners wanted a new kitchen design, including modern cabinets and new floor tiles. An open flow, white color and seating around the island to replace a round table in the kitchenette, was also the goal for the renovation of the kitchen. Designer Michelle Shao shifted the location of the island an merged the kitchenette with the kitchen with a 14 feet island running the length of the two areas facilitating an easy flow to the adjacent dining room area. The designer also choose new cabinets from Cabico with a warm chantilly color up to the ceiling to maximize storage and visually enlarge the space. Before: This photo of the previous kitchen created a visual barrier between the kitchen and the kitchenette area. After: The new island includes a lot of drawers, including a recycling and garbage section. A microwave is located in the island at the far end, conveniently across from the refrigerator, and a wine fridge from Cavavin on the other end is close the integrated table. The brighter color scheme includes warm white walls (Angora by Sherwin Williams) and chantilly cabinets with crown molding on top. Quebec New Caledonia granite countertops provide a nice contrast to all the white in the new kitchen: warm chantilly cabinets, the reflective white ceramic backsplash with white grout and the crystal white polished 24"x 24" porcelain of the floor tiles. It was one of the best choice of the owners as Michelle didn’t want to do anything too fussy. There's nothing the owners like better than their new white kitchen, full of light, with its brown granite. Overall, it is a great improvement over the old oak kitchen. I hired Michelle to redesign my kitchen and baths and to help me to decorate my home in general. In my experience, not all kitchen and bath designers can provide a well-rounded expertise in interior design as well, or vice versa, but I was determined to find a person who can do just that. I need to say that Michelle with her experience fulfilled that role and provided me with the service I was looking for. I really liked the ease of working with her and the fact that after our initial meeting I was sure she had the grasp of my ideas very well. She was always very cognizant of my thought and ideas, timely and accurate with her estimates, respectful, courteous, and patient. That last one was important. The result is rather pleasing, mostly, thanks to her inputs and suggestions. She has a keen and creative mind to match colours, shapes, and forms, and textures to spaces that will just spring to life the way imagined. Without hesitation, I would recommend her to anyone.
