About Us

The owner of Artistic Landscape Architecture, came up with the name for his business in the year 2000 while a graduate student at the University of Arizona school of Landscape Architecture. He wanted a name which would be catchy and describe his design philosophy. Since then he has designed and installed many residential landscapes and worked as a designer on many commercial and public projects within the Tucson area. He has also worked as a landscape designer on many international projects in arid regions of the Middle East. AALD specializes in the design and installation of residential landscapes within the Tucson area. Design specialties include Water Harvesting, Butterfly & Hummingbird Themed Gardens, and Xeriscaping. AALD's intent is to create beautiful, peaceful, functional, and engaging spaces which compliment and support their surrounding environments. Josh’s design philosophy is to work with the client to achieve their design desires with the utmost of quality and care. His prices are reasonable and his work is of the highest quality. He can design just about anything and strives to achieve the client’s vision on every project.

I am very pleased with the design and installation of my landscape done by Josh Gormally of Atristic Landscape Architecture. He took my desire for a desert sensitive plan and with a good combination of hardscape and appropriate plant material made it a reality. He did this within the budget limitations that I could afford. He did an excellent job and I am very happy with the end result.

It has been a pleasure working with ALA. We are very pleased with the finished product. Our project included pavers, stone planters, a metal planter, sitting walls, artificial turf, plantings, irrigation and accent lighting. Josh encouraged sending pictures of things we preferred so he could incorporate those ideas into our plan. As we were not from the desert, we wanted a lot of cactus and then he provided feedback on other plants we liked and whether those plants would work in our design. During the process we modified a few things and Josh suggested changes. He was cognizant of providing budget numbers when necessary to accommodate changes and was fair in reconciling the final costs due to differences in materials used. Josh was very responsive to texts and emails and always provided updates on when his crew would be working at our home. He outsourced a large metal planter and 2 trellises which turned out really well. Due to our budget restraints, we split the work into 2 phases. We plan to continue using ALA for phase 2,

When my brother died I had a lot of work to do to get the house ready for sale. I was doing it all remotely and working with Josh made it very easy. He cleaned up the gardens, restored all the sight lines to the beautiful Tucson mountains. He even arranged for some other folks in the trades to do some work for me. This was the most satisfying of the jobs I had to manage from afar.

I had some landscaping work done on my property and a short wall installed, footer and block. and some other small things done. very unhappy with the short wall . the wall was only 2.5 feet high and approximately 30 feet long but when they finished the wall it was 2 1/2 inches too high on one side, you can see it driving by the house, very bad workmanship. bad thing is he keeps avoiding my e-mails and won't respond. do not hire

Josh did a great job redesigning an area where I wanted a 7' x 14' raised garden bed removed & a new look created. . Josh has great vision & came up with a totally new & tranquil look to the area. He used the flagstone & timbers from the garden bed, put in irrigation to the new plants along the perimeter with solar lights. Love it. He looks at an area & sees a new picture. I'm very pleased with the work Josh & his crew did & highly recommend Josh for any size project.

Josh Gormally, MLA, APLD, completed a huge landscaping remodel of the front area of my residential property in May, 2017. Josh is very creative and after an initial consultation to establish my desires and requirements for the space, he presented a detailed plan and plant list. The work included demolition of exciting sidewalks and driveway and installation of tons of dirt for landscape mounds, boulders, and decorative rock. He also meticulously placed a stunning flagstone path, replaced all irrigation lines, and installed new lighting. Josh incorporated over 300 plants and 2 trees in the new landscape. The result is beyond what I could have imagined and will only grow more beautiful as the plants and trees mature.

Josh exceeded our expectations! He began our landscaping project with a presentation of professional, creative drawings and a detailed, comprehensive list of the work to be completed. He was always punctual and did exemplary work. Our project was completed on time and on budget. Josh did it all...new plantings, new irrigation, and new landscape lighting. There were a few addendums, but each time we were given an updated cost sheet - never any surprises. Six months later, we still get compliments on our "new" landscaping. With Josh's hard work, what was once a front yard of scrubs and sand, is now a beautiful butterfly and hummingbird sanctuary. We whole-heartedly recommend Artistic and Architectural Landscape without hesitation.
