Monte did more than install solar panels on our roof. He also identified the most efficient fireplaces for us, one is propane and the other is wood burning, and designed the HVAC system with a geothermal heat pump and integrated air exchange system that serves to ventilate the house by using the stale warm (or cool) air in the house to preheat or cool the fresh air coming into the system. This constant air exchange eliminates the need for traditional bathroom ventilating fans that remove treated air from the house and are sources of heat/cool loss in a system. He also identified the best water heater for the solar preheated water system and the means to dump unused solar heat into gravel in the crawl space. He also installs radiant floor heating which was in our original plan, but the fact that we would also need a full system for air conditioning in KS, precluded that redundancy. We have been delighted with the results of the integrated energy system he installed. Our new house has a HERS rating of 60 which means it is 40% more efficient than a comparably sized home built to code. Part of that is due to Monte's contributions.
