My father started Chimcare in 1989 while he was working full-time for a delivery company. He was able to make ends meet with his current work, but dreamed of doing more for his children.The idea of owning his own business was exciting and he liked the idea that his hard work could be better rewarded. In addition, he had held a previous internship learning masonry and saw a natural connection to chimney cleaning. He purchased his first chimney cleaning equipment from an ad in the classified section of The Oregonian. In his spare time, he would clean chimneys for friends and neighbors. People liked his spirit, his friendliness and his attention to detail. They called him back. Eventually, after cleaning chimneys on the side for two years, my father was able to quit the delivery service and clean chimneys full-time. After 20 years of service, my father decided to retire to pursue his personal passions. He still feels a commitment to his clients whose homes he cared about for so many years and would only leave his business in the hands of us kids. We’ve lived and worked alongside of our father for many years. He taught us integrity —to not take shortcuts and to always do a job that you could put your name on.
