Where would you place the television? Above the fireplace?
I actually see that a lot in photos on Houzz and it seems to work very well.

Do you have a picture of your room? It's ok to make the tv the focal point if you must, but best to keep the tv on an adjoining wall with the fireplace in stead of an opposite wall. If the tv and fireplace are not adjoining, then do you have room to make the fireplace wall a separate conversation area?

No, I don't have a picture of it and all the furniture is out of there now and the flooring has been removed and I am waiting for the paneling to be removed and drywalls put in and painted before having hardwood floors put in the room. The wall the fireplace is on also has built in bookshelve on one side (which a decorator thinks I should have removed. The other side of the fireplace has French doors leading the patio on the other side of the fireplace. I have 3 full walls except each has a door, one into entry foyer, one into breakfast room, 1 into hallway leading to bedrooms. There is also a half window opening where you can serve from the buitl in wet bar (entrance to the wet bar is from the breakfast room) We tried placing a sofa facing the fireplace but part of the sofa is the first thing you see when walking in from the front entrance foyer (doesn't look right). There isn't room above the fireplace for the flat screen tv and it is currently sitting on top of our entertainment center.
