The LED lighting is typically powered by a "chorded" power source. If you are using a switched garbage disposal, we will often add the additional switch here to switch the power supply on and off. You will only need one outlet. If you are doing uplighting and undercabinetlighting, the one outlet is still sufficient. The electrician will just switch each half of the outlet separately. From the outlet location, the electrician runs low voltage wire to all of the locations where you will have the LED lighting. We typically will place the outlet just above the top of a cabinet toward the center of the kitchen trying to minimize the length of all of the individual runs to mitigate voltage drop. If your cabinets go all of the way to the ceiling, then we will typically do the exact same process expect put the outlet in the back of one of the base cabinets out of the way where it will never really be seen once the cabinets are loaded with kitchen gadgets.

With LED you have the flex tape as well as more standard options such as "puck" lights. In most cases, and with most manufacturers, the above applies in all cases.

Update: the best the builder could offer was one switch inside a cabinet--probably not the best. So, next best option is to have outlets installed on the wall below each of the two sections, and then used an on/off switch on whatever led lighting system we install. So, wondering where to place the outlets i.e. left, middle, right. Just trying to get the best spot for later plugging in the lights. Each section is the width of two cabinets. The sections are separated by a microwave. Thanks! P.S. Recommendations for LED lights would be helpful too.
