I have not tried this. It has double compound leafs and the leaflets are rather large. I do not know if this would work well, Im thinking on an aesthetic angle rather than the ability to get it to grow in a small pot.
Hi Bill, I guess I am not as concerned with keeping it as a true bonsai. I do want to keep it containerized & to develop a canopy, though I am sure that reducing the leaf size will be troublesome. I am mostly interested in getting the tree to flower & possibly fruit from its pot. I am thinking I will eventually have it in about an 18 inch, 10 gallon or so pot.
Hi Have not tried that particular species but have tried several other "giants" with mixed results. Though I managed to keep them under 8 feet they never flowered at the dwarfed size. Among the types I tried . Delonix regia .Colvillea racemosa .Jacaranda mimosifolia. Most disapointing was the Delonix, supposedly a white form that I started from seed. I recently planted it in a neighbors yard to see what happens. Have over 10 years in it without a single flower. I suspect it's permanently stunted as I have watched others planrted normaly ,flower within 5 years. The sausage tree would make a spectacular dwarf for sure but even at 10 percent normal would still be very large lol gary
