If you get any other tree or plant, please do NOT go by the tags attached - they're printed by the millions and the same stupid info is on all of them. PS junipers like to dry out quite a bit between waterings, however it's also quite possible your tree was mostly dead when you got it.

A friend told me that maybe I could just trim the greenery off and it will grow new greenery.Is that correct,like maybe the top is only dead?

It's most likely dead. But you might as well examine the roots for signs of life. If there's life, you can always try to salvage the plant.

More importantly, where do you keep this plant? Outdoors?

indoors actually.When I bought it I was told that it just needed a little sunlight.What can I do if the roots show any sign of life?Is it possible to start anew with just roots?

Can you please confine your questions on your tree to one post? Thanks. No you cannot just start it from roots (and they aren't going to show signs of life if the tree's so obviously gone - junipers get brittle at the very end, after it's too late to revive (unless it is just a single 'bad' branch.
