Ok, I think I got it!! No more links, yahoo! Very cool.

    1) Set up account at Photobucket (free). Didn't change any defaults or anything

    2) Sent pics from my computer to photobucket (use multiple pics option to save time).

    3) Minimized Photobucket (don't close) and opened up Gardenweb and type message text, leave window open

    4) Goto Photobucket window. Highlited the "TAG" line from Photobucket under photo you wish to post and then hit Control C to copy.

    5) Came back to Gardenweb message and hit Control V to paste the "tag" info right into message (note: this does not go in the optional link URL line).

    6) Check preview message -- it will show your actual pic if you did it right.

    Hope this helps someone!

I am testing as well. It is about time I learned how to do this!!

If this works, it is a photo of my wax begonias with Dichondra.

    Thanks for posting these instructions.

Yeah, it works!!! However my photo is gigantic. Any tips from photobucket users on how to make the photo smaller?

Great pic! I looked at your photo album again (from another post) and it is truly inspiring!!! I love those flambe? petunias -- are they from Park Seeds? I may just try those sometime.

    {{gwi:12652}}

Patricia, you read my mind! I wanted to try this again and see if my photo was still huge, and the photo I picked was my Dolce Flambe petunias!!

Okay, so if it is large, I obviously need to resize. I have this option on my camera, to size down, but cannot find where the option is in My Pictures, where I store all my photos. Though it may be time consuming, I may consider deleting all my photos from My Pictures, resizing my disks and then reinstalling them again. Do I have to go through this trouble?

I dont deserve the very nice Sony digital camera that my husband bought for me for our wedding. I dont know how to use it to its potential, am not a good photographer, but I do use it all the time.

I think there is a forum on gardenweb for doing this testing, but, hey, we'll get to see some good photos on the annuals forum, right?!

    Ellen --

I like to shoot my pics in the highest resolution (meaning big file size) and then I use Adobe Photoshop to resize only the ones I want to email or post to web. Sorry, I know that doesn't help you much. There is a sister program called Adobe Photoshop ELEMENTS that is pretty easy to use to edit pics, add text to them (for example to note on your pics the name of your plants). It would probably run around $70?? or so.

My other hobby is digital scrapbooking, so I like to play with these programs.

I wouldn't delete anything...the additional pixels are great if you have anything printed out. We just need to find an easy way for you to reduce the ones you plan on posting. If I get a chance, I'll look at the options on photobucket.

p.s. what a nice gift from DH!

    Patricia

I can write myself gardening notes right on the photo with this program.

    {{gwi:12654}}

Okay, I am testing again. It was easier to just take a new photo for the sake of doing this test. This is a photo of Profusion Apricot zinnias.

Yes, it would be really time consuming to reduce all those photos! I have so many photo programs on this computer and dont know how to use any of them! Just not enough hours in the day, you know?

    Let's see if this works.

    Ellen,
I am not so fortunate to have a digital camera or Photoshop. But I have learned to post on the forums that have directions on the bottom of the page (usually "gallery" forums). Anyway, I found that I can send my saved photos to MSPaint (came with the computer) and in the drop down menu under "image,' choose "stretch/skew." Then I change the size, say 50% of original height x 50% of original width. Then when I get it small enough (somewhere, I forget where, I can read how many kilobytes the picture is), I can post it.
Maybe this would be less trouble for you than resizing everything.

Patricia, I forgot to say thank you! This is my first time on the annuals forum.
I've been meaning to figure out how to post photos directly in the body of the post, and now you've spelled it out for us. I'm sure this will be appreciated by many on garden web.
    Thanks.

    Ellen,
In Photobucket, there is a button for editing your photos. It gives you the option to resize to a percentage of the original. Hope this helps.

  • ellen_inmo

Wonderful! I will try this tomorrow then! Another excuse to show off some of my precious plants! :)

  • joycevallee

    Ellen:

Don't toss any of those pics, they are so nice. I was going to say what Ponder said. It's really simple to do.

Also, there are many programs that you can download from the net that will allow you to resize pictures. The one I use is "IrfanView" but there are loads more. It is at www.irfanview.com and the great thing is that it is free. You can also do things to whole batches of pictures at a times. For example if you want to resize 20 pictues from 1600 or so to 400 or 500 hundred you would just select all the ones you want and then put in your selections.

A good size I think for this application might be 640 x 480 (the size to send for email) or 800 x 600 pixels. A pixel is the amount of space a dot (.) takes up.

You can do other things as well such as sharpen, lighten, darken etc all to batches if you desire.

I also agree with psnave, take your pictures at the best resolution (highest) or whatever and then resize. It will give you a much better picture when you resize it.

and... thanks psnave for posting those instructions. I did the same thing last year and couldn't remember or find them again this year.

How about that! I found the option on Photobucket, very easy! I have been battling Adobe Photoshop 7.0 forever, just to do exactly what just took me 2 seconds to do on Photobucket! This is a great lesson for the day. Thank you everyone for helping.

In this photo is a close up of the Swizzle Cherry & Ivory Zinnia, one of my absolute favorites. The flowers are everchanging, everblooming, on perfectly bushy plants, smothered with buds and blooms.

Now, I am going to be busy filling up my "photobucket" full of pictures today!

May I try? This is something I have been struggling with far too long. If I am successful I will share a photo of my Joseph's Coat.

Kate, thats a gorgeous pic indeed. Makes me want to try roses again...

But now that you've figured out how to imbed pics, I think you should post it in its own thread so it gets seen! Not sure if that many people would click on a thread with a heading like the one above!

I would always end up with the pic but a link as well so I needed this post.

BTW, does anyone know if this is a butterfly bush? Can't remember back that far. *lol*

Friends: I tried and tried to do this to no avail - till my 23 year old came home from university. She showed me how and when I asked her: "How did you figure out how to do this?" she said "I just tried and tried different things until it worked!" Kids have a lot less worry than we do about doing something wrong, hey?

  • marial1214

    Those orange flowers are gorgeous!

In the vegetable forum, someone taught me how to post little thumb nail photos using Photobucket. He said to use the 1st code (the top one) generated on Photobucket. Since then I've been coping/pasting that top code into my post, I achieve the thumbnail photos.

  • Nancy

I also was given instructions on resizing, but you have to do it regularly to remember how.
If you want to make the photo smaller but don't want to get the photo editing software and save a new copy, you can just put a size reference in the "img" tag, like this: width="300". You don't have to specify both width and height. One will do. For example it would look like (replacing the [ with [img src="http://www.yourdomain.com/image.jpg"; width="300"]

I need to try the 1st code, I thought I had done that without success, but I need to try again. See if this works:

    dredawg5000,

As you can see, it didn't work. Following the /z197/dredawg5000/ you should have the album name followed by the image name (something.jpg) and use the HTML construct <img SRC="url_of_image">

The URL of the image should have appeared below the image in PhotoBucket. Just clicking on it automatically copies it to the ClipBoard, so just pasting should get it in here.

Could someone please explain what method you were using to post pictures to GW before this post? I am a little surprised to see this post here - I am new to the site. This is the method I (and I believe other members)have been using to post photos. on other forums. For those of you with questions about re-sizing, most digital camera software have the re-sizing feature (mine is a Canon and it has it) and photobucket has it too - it even has a 'message board' option so you don't have to specify any dimensions. My Canon software also has the ability to add text to your photos, but you cannot change it. If I need to change, I usually re-load the photo.

    Northerner,

"Could someone please explain what method you were using to post pictures to GW before this post?"

People were sometimes just providing a link to the picture, {{gwi:12643}}.

    MM

  • maineman

Or, sometimes they just filled in the Optional Link URL at the bottom of the Message edit window, like this.

  • muffienh

To make the photos smaller, for photos stored in your computer, right click on the picture you want and look at the menu in the window that opens. You will see "Send to" a little more than halfway down, click on that and another window will open that asks if you want to make the picture smaller. Say yes and send it to yourself by email. You will want to rename it when you open it on your email; I just add an "e" to the name, as in eProfusionzinnia.jpg.

Thanks for the tip on posting pics here. I will try this method.
