In short, no. The acidity vanishes quickly. And I don't think you want silage anywhere near your house. That stuff stinks.

Lots of compost will buffer the pH and soil sulfur is the cheapest long-lasting way of lowering pH.

Pine needles are supposed to be an effective acidifier but it takes a while.

It has long been suggested that pine needles acidify soil. However, more recent information from a handful of extension services point out adding pine needles is not effective in adjusting pH. At least not within a single lifetime.

Organic Sulfur is cheap and effective.

I add lots and lots of ground up leaves. As a kid we did it for the azalias, and now I'm doing it for the blueberries.

Oak leaves are supposed to be acidic.

In short, the answer is no.

You could make vinegar from various garden and yard waste, and lower soil pH by periodic additions of this material. However, there are bacteria in the soil that consume the vinegar, so the pH will rise back up in several weeks. The only way to maintain lowered soil pH with vinegar is to keep adding more vinegar, every two weeks or so, indefinitely. Agricultural sulfur can be purchased in 50lb bags, at a feed 'n seed co-op, where fertilizer is sold. I have heard of prices as low as 10 cents a pound, but here in Wisconsin, I am paying 45 cents a pound for bagged agricultural sulfur. It comes from Canada, where it is extracted from either natural gas or crude oil.
