Hi Jackie, sorry about your losses! For your consideration, here's what I can remember doing for extended periods... YMMV. All of these were "done" from cuttings, not by sticking existing roots in water:

Pothos (Epipremnum)
various Philodendrons
Dracaena sanderiana and/or marginata
Cordyline fruticosa
Coleus
Perilla
various Tradescantias
spider plant (Chlorophytum)
Syngonium
wax/cane Begonia
Sansevieria trafasciata

purple gave you a good list. i would add Aglaonema (chinese evergreen) to it.

oh, and you might want to check out a blog called Gardening on Cloud 9. this page linked to below has sandy's list of suitable plants for crystal soil. she has other pages about how to convert plants, water them, etc.
