Thanks for the great pics! It is very helpful to people like me who have not grown blackberries before or even seen the plants. I live in Oklahoma now and apparently they do well here. I have a small backyard and my plan is to plant blackberries along the fence on one side. Do you think cattle panels attached to the inside of my 6' tall wooden fence would work for trellising blackberries? I want to grow the thornless ones, and have read that Triple Crown is especially productive.

I was planning to do 1' tall raised beds along the fence for planting the blackberries, since our soil is heavy clay. Do you think this would work?

The raised bed is fine, allow some extra depth for winter protective mulch.

If your cattle panels are attached within a few inches of a solid wood fence, you will have to keep pruned all laterals that head towards the fence, and you may have to keep pruned all fruiting spurs from the remaining laterals that head in that direction also. Otherwise, you will end up with a very stained fence from ripe berries. Also, the fruit does not like to touch a hot surface, such as a sun-heated fence.
