Grapes summer propagation?

I want to propagate my grapes, and I was wondering what the preffered summer method is. For green cuttings, do I need to use rooting hormone? For airlayers, do I need to girdle the cane / apply hormone? Is it better to use the semi-hard wood toward the base of the cane, the tips, or something in between?

Are any canes close enough to bend to the ground? I have done this many times with no root hormone or any scaring of the tissue.Just make sure you bury a leaf node as this is where the best rooting will occur.If all you can get buried is a straight piece of cane it will still root but I find it takes a lot longer.

glenn is right layering is great, the mother vine feeds the "cut" while it grows roots & you do not have to water it like a cutting that is removed from the vine.
You can root longer cutting/vine in layering, but I would leave them until Spring it you have more the 6 inches of vine.
I have a friend that roots the vines in 1 gallon pots of potting soil.
