Can anyone help me identify this plum tree?

rhodora

I built a new house and the contractor took out the tree (which he was not supposed to!). The tree was at least 25 years old. He offered to replace it, and I can't seem to find anything like it at the nursery.

After surfing the web, I am thinking maybe it might be Canada plum or red gage? But it's so hard to tell.

Sorry, I don't have any photos of the fruit, but my best recoletction is that it was reddish. The fruit was very good and could be eaten raw.

I live in Northern Ontario, Canada, which I believe is zone 3.

Any help from Gardenweb members would be so very much appreciated!
