Plant grass seed now, or wait?

We have a very large area of yard that needs to be seeded or sodded. (We lost a 40-year-old linden ::SOB:: in a windstorm last month and had to get the stump ground out.)

Obviously, mid-July is not the best time to plant grass seed but should we wait? If we do, we'll literally have to wait at least 2 months for the temps to come down.

It is right in the front, and so ugly.

I had the same question, I was told to wait until fall time to re-seed, if you must do it now, you need to water it very often.

Are you planning on doing it yourself or hire a professional?

We would do it ourselves. Would sod be better? Right now it's just topsoil, and I am worried that grass seed won't really cut it.
