Lawnboy 10550 Easystride Handle (blade brake anchor)

Anyone have a work around for a broken handle, specifically where the cheesy anchor is for the cable from the mower shutoff/brake? When looking at the underside of the handle control, there is a plastic casting in the handle that houses this cable in a groove and it gets anchored from moving with a small metal plate held in place with a screw/bolt. My cable slides and is not held securely anymore so the shutoff does not work (can release bail and the mower keeps running). The end of the plastic casting cracked off (why who knows?) so there is not enough groove to allow adequate anchoring. The design is really bad and totally cheesey in my opinion. But figured this may be a common problem and someone may have figured an alternative means to anchor the cable (cable need to move with the handle). Was trying to avoid spending $70 for a new one. Thanks.
