A perennial, though not tolerant of frost at all. Although there's no hope for it surviving winter in NC, they're easy to keep inside for winter, if you have a space next to a window. Either as a potted plant, or as a cutting in water, easy to save. Remove the lower leaves to encourage more branches at the lower levels (if desired.)

No, just pinch it back to encourage more branching, and keep it from flowering.

Removing the tips results in bifurcation at the tips, lower branches may or may not grow from that. Wherever a leaf is removed, a new branch at that node is the usual result. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds love Coleus flowers, I leave them on.
