Are Cotinus (smoke bushes) usually late to leaf out compared to other shrubs? My golden variety is yet to produce any leaves up here in Massachusetts, although I am confident it is very much alive by breaking a couple twigs off. I also have a standard variety that has leafed out a little (more than the golden)but much less than other things like my Sambucus. Wondering if this is normal, or perhaps their is something they don't like. They both are in good, well drained soil and recieve direct sun for about 3/4 of the day.
