Looks more like a cultivar of Prunus laurocerasus (Laurel) than Holly. I can't help with the problem, though. Were the branches cut off before or after the die back started?

its struggling... i would be surprised to see it fail in the high heat of summer ..

if it was out my front door.. i wouldnt look at it all summer long ... and would be looking to replace it ...

you have a monoculture.. consider yourself extremely lucky.. all of them dont look the same ...

when you dig it out... i wouldnt be surprised if you find the roots never left the form of the pot is came in ... just a guess

ps: one trick.. in fall ... would be to take the end one.. move it in the middle ... to fill the gap with an exact duplicate.. and then do something else at the end ... we do NOT transplant.. weeks before the heat of summer...
