It looks like Hibiscus seed pods, and perhaps Hybiscus syriacus, aka Rose of Sharon.

If it was that particular species of Hibiscus there would be a woody branch up the center, that extended beyond the pods.

Maybe they are from Hibiscus moscheutos, or one of its hybrids, which I believe are popular in Oregon?

a pic of the plant .. even w/o leaves would give us clues to scale.. size ... form ... etc ... one peep above is suggesting an 18 inch plant.. and another.. what could be an 8 foot shrub ...

is it woody.. does it die to the ground.... does it flower ... etc .. and further info would help ... [obviously.. if it seeds.. it flowers .... but what color.. what size.. etc]

bboy - I hesitate to doubt you but I don't see this branch up the centre on images of H syriacus pods I have looked at (they don't set seed here so I can't go outside and check.)

I think he means they tend to bloom at the axils rather than terminals like H. moscheutos does.

Hibiscus syriacus does bloom on branch terminals - I went outside and looked at mine.

Hibiscus moscheutos buds do look very similar to those of H. syriacus and I agree that a view of the entire plant would help in ID.

I think your beautiful plant might be an epiphyllum, but I'm not sure. There are a few flowering succulents like yours.

Later photos show a clearly visible, thick woody branch up the center.

I think it is indeed a hibiscus after looking at images of seed pods and you can see faintly in the backgound an intact green pod.

Thank you for responding about the cactus plant "Queen of the Night" Epiphyllum Oxypetalum white Orchid. I was able to look up the name you gave me and it looks the same as mine. It is such an easy plant to make starters from and fun to watch them grow. much obliged.
