Looks like a syringa Pekingensis. Saw one blooming when In town last week. I just planted one last fall. Nice little tree with a late bloom for lilac.

It looks like a tree lilac to me as well. There are several as street trees here in Jersey City. They are blooming now.

Thank you all. I just looked it up, and that is a tree lilac. I am relieved. I jut paid a lot of money to remove some large trees in the back so I could have gardens. Then he planted what he said were catalpa. If it had been a catalpa, it would have grown so wide, it would have been over my fence some 15 feet or more and my yard faces south. I was not happy. This won't get nearly as big. Thanks again.
