That's 'no big deal.' Lop off the above and let it grow from what did produce.

Another thing: it appears the rootstock is going like gangbusters so you'll want to remove any growth (always) from below the graft-union. The graft union should be very noticeable.

if you didnt notice.. it was a very bad winter .. and that is the reason ...

and.. micro climates rule.. and that is why some were NOT affected.. and this one was

if it is understock ... then it is still understock ... it should recover ...

if it was already grafted ... and the graft above died .. its still understock ...

so if i understand your facts.. you are all set ...

it will recover.. in a year or two .. all by itself ...

can i ask.. why you want an apple.. in the middle of what looks like one heck of a deer field??? ... is the goal to feed them i the future????
