Azaleas can be transplanted anytime. It is better to transplant them when they are dormant, but if you are careful, transplanting now shouldn't be a problem. They do have shallow roots and will need to be watched so they don't get too dry but are susceptible to root rot if kept too wet. The important thing is make sure they have very good drainage and only water when they are getting dry.

Some shade is good and never let the sun hit the pot. Cooked roots is the quickest way to kill an azalea. A safe way is to use a double pot with an air layer in between. That way the outer pot shades the inner pot. It is best if the outer pot is a light color. Also, always use a mulch to avoid the sun directly striking the soil surface.

Since you are talking bonsai, some of your potting trays have less side surface area and are somewhat self shading so that solar heating is not as big a consideration.

When I see bonsai such as at Longwood Gardens, the National Arboretum or the Rhododendron Species Foundation, it usually is grown ourdoors in diffuse shade and with moss on the surface.

I will use the moss and keep it where it will get dappled sun only.
