Survivors in the Old Cemeteries

Anntn used this phrase, "survivors in the old cemeteries" in another posting, referring to a polyantha, Madame Norbert Levavasseur.

I'm working with a group from the local ARS group helping a local cemetery in north Alabama choose some antique roses to plant. The cemetery has a garden staff which is excited about putting some of these old roses into the cemetery. Sadly, none of us have any experience with old cemeteries or knowledge of old roses that might have been grown in north Alabama and only two of us even grow any old roses.

There don't seem to be any records that the cemetery has as to what roses might have previously been planted. Earthkind roses will most probably be planted ... but are there other roses that you have seen in southern cemeteries that you would recommend? Survivors, as it were?

We are picking roses for three areas but the cemetery is very willing to add many more in the future if these do well. I've checked the rose list at the Lynchburg Cemetery also.

Thank you for any ideas or thoughts, book recommendations or resources.
