Could be dampoff. Was your starting soil sterile?

I used a brand new bag of Fafard seedling mix so I'm assuming it was sterile. I also used some new containers to grow them in.

I'm guessing there's no cure for damping off?

It sounds like the seedlings might not be getting enough light. What type of light are they getting and for how long?

I have a shop light with two neon bulbs hanging over my tray and I've set the timer for a twelve hour shift. Is that too short?

I've trimmed the seedlings and fertilized with a bit of watered-down fish emulsion and it has seemed to help some of the seedlings (some are now standing up). I even saw that some of them are growing a second leaf.

Does anyone know how to post an image in this forum? I'd like to share what they look like now.

14-16 hours of light would be better and the tops of the plants should be about 3 inches away from the bulbs.

You've already done what I was going to recommend next. Which was trimming the tops and fertilizing. With a little tlc your plants should be fine.

As for posting an image, I have no idea how.

I've changed my timer for 14 hours yesterday, will see if it makes a difference.
