Good Time For Cuttings?

milkmood

I'm going to visit a friend in the far west valley that has a dozen or so fruit trees (pomegranate, nectarines, apricots, figs, apple, and citrus). They have generously given me permission to take all the cuttings I want, which I'd like to root with rootone hormone or something.

Is this the right time of year to root cuttings when there are no leaves on the trees, or is it preferable to do that when the trees are growing vigorously in the spring and summer?

This used to be such a lively forum. Where'd everyone go?

I've had great success with figs and pomegranates when they're dormant, so it seems like a fine time to try those. I imagine the same is true for those decidous fruit as well. As for the citrus, are you going to try actual cuttings, or grafting??

I bet you'll have good luck with most of those now. Seems like a lot of deciduous fruit root best when dormant.

Let us know what you do and how it works out. Your friend sounds generous!

    Happy gardening,
    Grant
