I would guess but i'm not real sure. That what you have bought is a "dwarf cavendish " because i know that's all our home depot sells at this time of year. All of my bananas are in the sun and never had problems. This banana in your zone will die back every year. but it should regrow just mulch it real heavy. Maybe this will
help a little bit.

Home Depot plants could be any kind of banana, depends a lot on where you live and luck of the draw. I don't think a dwarf cavendish can survive a winter outdoors in zone 5, though. Your banana should be able to take full sun, but it will have to moved very gradually from indoors to outdoors once frost is past in the spring, or it will sunburn.

Dwarf Cavendish is usually the one they sell

Ours usually sells the Super Dwarf Cavendish in the houseplants section. Dwarf Cav can get 8 ft or more tall and Super Dwarf usually stays under 6 ft I believe. In late Spring and Summer you can sometimes get other varieties that are meant to be planted as annuals.

At Home Depot, its normally a dwarf cavendish - even down in Miami,Fl. They can take the full sun but you have to slowly introduce them to the sun...All of mine are in either full or filtered sun and are planted directly in the ground. They will NOT survive the winter in your area. I would suggest bringing them indoors(digging them up) and letting them go dormant over the winter- probably in a basement. You can do a search for posts on GardenWeb on how to overwinter, fertilze, etc...Lots of info on here. Some confusing...but basically these are very easy to grow and hard to kill as long as you use some common sense. Good Luck!

Thanks for the info.Yes, I will be bringing this one in come fall and will store in basement.I just wasn't sure when the tag said plant out in bright light,not sun.I will for sure gradually get it accustomed to the sun.
