Well, if you really want to get that technical I would suggest that enzymes are playing a huge role in the morphing phase.
This is one of the most fascinating creatures on earth, as it goes through such dramatic changes, it is even in Greek Mythology...
Frogs are the only other animal I can think of that go through such a change, also in Greek writings..
So study frogs and butterflies, Greek writeups?
It's like walking into a library...you cna pick a book off the shelf for the general public, or you can go into the reference room, where books are not allowed to leave...;)

I would love an imaging detail of each day and what parts are doing what. In that link I posted, the pics are amazing but I am having a hard time figuring out what part of the cat is in what part of the morphing butterfly. I saw another vid where a butterfly breeder said the front 6 legs of the cat are the ones that become the butterfly legs. That is so awesome!
