Holy cow, I have buds! On the dahlias I started indoors.

I left town for 4 days and when I came back today found that 2 of the ~40 dahlias I started indoors in paper-lined pots in Mid-March have buds already! They are Humpty Dumpty, a dwarf variety I have not grown before. I have grown dwarf ones before, just not this one, and have never had buds until they were planted outside. I am amazed. These 2 plants only have something like 6 pairs of leaves.

I am psyched! More so than usual...

Coming back from the sunny warm south (Tennessee)to find daffodils, early tulips, and hyacinths blooming in my chilly yard helped too.

That is a nice feeling to see those early buds. This year, my dwarf dahlias were the first to sprout. Maybe they too will be the first to bud. :)

Congratulations Linnea! You're going to have a long and early dahlia season! I am just potting up now and was happy to have one be 6 inches tall LOL. If you saw the condition of our foul, cold, completely soggy soil you would know I am in no hurry to plant outdoors.

Sorry to hear your weather has been bad. (WeÂve had our share of soggy too!) It was 68 degrees F here today and I was so tempted to haul those dahlias outside. But with a month until our past frost date, I resisted.
