I recently worked with a couple that had different style preferences and couldn't agree on how to design their living room. The husband's style preference is Afrocentric and his wife's is traditional. Through getting to know the couple better I found that the wife prefers traditional because of the cozy and comfortable nature of the style. The husband loves African art and artifacts and had a lot of it which his wife thought was overwhelming the space. I used their existing traditional furniture pieces to create a cozy, comfortable and social living room layout. I removed some of his artwork and kept the pieces that he really liked and used that to accessorize and accent the space. They were both very happy with the result.
