Hi Feisty, I was hoping that someone might know what plant your neighbor has but it does not look that way. Then this morning it occured to me that this might be a bush that has been grafted and some of the old stock has sprouted and grown up into the grafted part. This would account for the two different types of leaves and the different flowers. This theory is about as far as I can go with the information you have been able to provide, or at least until you can post a picture. Jerry

It looks like a kerria japonica, but I've never heard of a white one. It may be one of the yellow jasmines -- jasminum mesneyi, or humile revolutum, but they're not that double, and again I haven't heard of one variety blooming both yellow and white.

Have you tried it on the plant ID forum?

The stems and leaves are the same throughout, so I don't think there has been any grafting... The stems don't die off after the first blooming; the same stems bloom a second time in yellow...

I'll check out the plant names suggested to see if they look similar to the mystery plant.

Try posting this on the Perennials forum. This looks like what is called Goldenglow in rural Idaho but I can't remember the proper name. It doesn't flower in the spring, though. Are you sure there aren't two different plants in the same spot?

Are you sure it isn't 2 plants together? I'm thinking it is a double daffodil like 'Erlicheer', because the flowers look nothing like a typical daffodil, and they are fragrant. The flowers look like the 'Grand Duke' jasmine you mentioned.
