Dividing New Plants

I bought a gallon pot of Midnight Rose at Lowes. I was able to wiggle some of the small divisions at the base back and forth and snap them off with some roots still attached. I do this now when I buy new plants if they are large enough. It seems to work almost every single time! I just pot them up and use left over chop sticks to prop them up until the roots hold them up on their own. I place them in a good shady spot for a week or two and then they are ready to plant out! Have you tried this?

No but that sounds good! I would be interested in seeing how those little ones looked the next spring.

I think it was about ten dollars. They had very large plants though!

I used to work at a GC where we had a fair number of Heucheras - some of them expensive. One year weevil larvae got into the crop. So there were leaves and thick stems but no roots. Much to my bosses amusement I cleaned and replanted the stems. Most of them took.

I just bought my MR at Home Depot 3 weeks ago and I think mine was close to $15 here in KC.

I have always bought the largest heuchera I can and divided it into two plants. I don't rememeber it never not taking.

I have done this with plants like salvia,clematis and of course coleus. It works every time.

Giveit a try, you have nothing to lose

Are you sure you divided a Clematis? It is rarely possible.

Also guys, I believe 'Midnight Rose' is still under patent. Asexual propagation like dividing is illegal, even for your own needs.
Be careful discussing such things on public forums :)

Alina, I guess I used the wrong term...lol I have done clems by digging a piece of root and they grow nicely.
