Are oak and maple trees in danger

Hi I have a big piece land with big maple and oak trees on it now I want to fill in the land with about a foot of soil. Because there is a river that floods the land every spring. If I rise the land about a foot would there be any danger of kiling the trees.

I've seen a few interesting video's from the Dirt Doctor's Youtube feed. Here's one that will explain what happens when you top the root flare with soil. To shorten the conversation, you will eventually kill those trees.

DEATH = yes!! I've seen an inch of extra soil kill a maple or an oak.
