Therese Bugnet does get very large. She is a great hardy rose but you only get one great bloom time from her and that is late spring/early summer. She is not thorny so is a friendly rose. There are so many other repeat or recurrent roses to pick from that will present more bloom and not be so large. If you are looking for hardy & reliable-I would recommend Cape Diamond, Morden Blush, Winnepeg Parks, Hope for Humanity and Chuckles to start with. They range in mature growth size to give you options, they will bloom all summer and they companion well with other plants. Hope for Humanity does tend to get tall but responds very well to pruning and her roses are in clusters which keep very well in a vase.

I had actually sworn off roses, until I just happened to click on his post. I couldn't resist the hardy yellow with scent--and I'm glad I didn't! But unfortunately, it rekindled my love of roses. Fortunately, I found a place to feed my addiction!

Thanks to both of you! Mytime- I'm looking mostly for shrub roses that are about 3-4ft tall. I'm pretty open minded when it comes to color, although I would like some fragrant varieties. I will definitely call Kevin. I work in Anchorage and so have been frequenting Bell's Nursery, but so far they only have more tender hybrid tea and grandiflora varieties. It's nice to see that there are roses available locally for such a great price!
