The cane on the lower left looks ok. The other canes which are black even with green higher are dead or soon to be.

Could the canes be rooted that are still green?

I don't know. Is that possible? How could I root the cane?

It wouldnt hurt to try. :D Maybe if you put it in a pot of damp potting soil and covered with a plastic bag or glass jar?

I would first select one of those upper green canes and cut one or two pieces about 5-7" each (don't lose track of which end of each cutting is up; when there are no leaves this is a bit of a challenge). Then root them by one of the methods mentioned in this forum. But, that bottom left cane is green and below what looks like the bud union. If so, it will be a different rose, but may be more healthy. Often roses are rooted on different stock, it could be a Dr. Huey, a lovely red rose.

Looks sort of like the bareroot roses I bought that never did anything.
