It a type of exotic ginger, I think - perhaps Hedychium coronarium.

Just on Sunday, I went to a nearby neighbor's house and dug up some of that and planted it beside my back door. Possibly a different variety - hers gets white flowers and the scent is amazing when it flowers. I was at her place last year when they were blooming and so had to ask if I could have a few plants. I got more than I hoped for, actually, because she's had them for so long and moved them around to different areas so she has tons and tons of it.

She calls it "ginger lily."

Pine cone lily! Or, that's what we called it when I was growing up. Here's a link I found.
