AGG is late variety. It takes a while for it to get going. I had to look up Jaune Negib but it seems like it is early one.

Aunt Gerties would be my choice. And yeah it is a late variety so I wouldn't expect fruit set from it yet in our zone. Growth, yeah, fruit, no.

I didn't explain well enough. The AGG plant is still the exact same size as it was when I planted it. All the other plants are 5 or 10 times bigger now than they were at planting time, but the AGG has not grown at all.

I have no idea why your AGG plant is lagging behind. The original source for this variety was Chuck Wyatt, now deceased (2002) and I got my seeds from him.

If I were in N VA I think you'd have time to take another AGG from your cell pack and replace the one that isn't growing as you expected.

IMO Jaune Negib isn't all that great, and I'm the one who first SSE listed, from a huge trade that 4 of us did in 1992 with Norbert in France.

Now if it was Jaune Flammee ( accent mark over the first e) that would be a different story, also from Norbert, b/c that one is outstanding and loved by many.

The JN seeds came as a freebie from either Baker Creek or Sandhill (don't have the packet with me now) and half the reason I considered planting it was because of your book!!! ;-)

Seems like Aunt Gertie's is the clear winner here, so I'll pop one of those guys in and see what happens. I have to check my notes, but I think I had a problem with it last year too. Strange.

Yep! AGG is on my "must plant" list every year, but since mine didn't take off I was thinking/wondering if it was a good time to try a different type.
