Roselee I keep hoping that the folks with the aviary will come and call them home.

the neighbor who enjoyed them in his yard said I don't know how you could catch them, they are so quick. 2 years ago before I knew where the aviary in the neighborhood was, there were several in my yard for a few weeks. Perhaps they have been living in the wild for that long....but I doubt it.

I had those in my outdoor aviary in Venice (CA), and they multiplied like crazy. They survive the winter outdoors just fine in southern California, but I don't know about Texas, especially the northern part. If their house is insulated, they might be okay. We built similar little houses for them, but we did row style houses with about twelve apartments.

Do they have a source for water?

Thank you all for the kind words. There are 2 fountains and a birdbath. I work from home and got to watch the male carry off bits of dry grass and plant construction materials. They are very welcome...just wish I didn't feel so darned responsible for them. Last year a mouse used the little house as a nest. Guess there is plenty of remodeling to do. smiling c
