what is it? succulent weed

Succulent, low, spreading plant that is taking over the bare spots in my lawn. Mostly in full sun. Strongly growing in all kind of weather. Dry summer didn't seem to bother it much. Shallow roots. Easily pulled. Small green leaves with reddish stems. Picture has a quarter coin for scale.

That is Common Purslane (Portulaca oleracea).

Thanks, Ty. I was thinking maybe purslane, but the leaves on this are really tiny. I seem to remember purslane leaves as being more substantial. What's surprising is that I've never really seen much of it before in my yard. Now it's taking over! And it is incredibly drought tolerant.

I figured that I was pulling so much of it, I owed it to myself to figure out what it was.

I understand it's edible. Hmmm. Recipes, anyone?

We use to fry it with onions and shortening or bacon with a splash of vinegar.
