Horrible tile corners - makes me want to cry!

Hi there...I've been silently on this forum for quite some time now, and now I'm finally posting because I have a situation that makes me want to cry. =(

My tiler (who is actually a general contractor - lesson learned - always hire a specialist!!!) did a horrible job on my tiled tub. The corners don't line up and I have huge gaps. My contractor kept saying it'll be filled up with caulk and that it'll look better once it was grouted, but it still looks the same. He then said that we could buy the metal 90 degree corners to hide it. I invested in such nice tile, and I'm horrified to see the results.

Is there anything I can do now to make this look better? Also, I was hoping to have the corners slightly rounded in case somebody scrapes the corner, but if not, it's okay too - I just want it to at least look professional. =((((

Here is a link that might be useful: Tile corner is mis-aligned (so is the other end near the faucet)

    Lorea,

I am sorry, but it is very hard to understand what you are talking about in the photo. Do you have a pic that is taken closer up?

If I'm looking at the picture correctly, your contractor did a horrible job. I'm not a tile expert but I did a small DIY tile job in my house and my finished results get compliments.

I'd ask him to take the tiles off and do it over if it were me. I wouldn't settle for a tacky metal strip to hide the screw up.

Your link doesn't show the finished tile work. It looks like I would need a snapfish account to view.

Oh no! If that actually IS the finished tile work...

If that really is the finished tilework, then there's clearly a screw-up. Looks like he started with a full tile at the bottom and didn't allow for the angle -- Sorry - that's just got to come out and be done right. A metal corner piece is not an acceptable solution.

Lorea, I am using the same tiles as you and wanted to share my photos with you so that you can see how those tiles should look like. Every tile should have been cut down to 45 degrees so that they meet on the corners to create a seamless look. This is very time consuming and that is why I suspect your guy doesn't want/know how to do. However, I've never posted photos and don't have time to sign up in a photo sharing website. If you provide your email address, I will gladly send some photos to you. I have been quietly lurking on gardenweb, but when I saw your post, I wanted to cry for you because it is a REALLY BAD job, so if you can show him my photos, he will see how bad it is.

Lorea, I learned how to post, so here is how our tiles turned out. It's not finished, but the tub surround is done.

The tile is made by Ottimo (size 12x24).

I agree with the others. Your contractor needs to do this over, tiles and labor at his expense. Show him turtle's picture and tell him politely but firmly that your expectation is that your tub should look like this and that you are not paying him until it does.

Thanks all for the kind words! Unfortunately, that was the picture of the tile after it was set - I think I avoided looking at it or taking pictures of it after it was grouted because it caused me so much distress. =(

Turtle - your tiling work is gorgeous!! I wish I had seen that picture earlier so I could have shown it to my contractor - now I have a lot of wasted tiles and more delays. =(

BTW - the tile we are using is Daltile Gris Linen Fabrique.

Tile can be removed. I agree with Marie Louise: this is your contractors problem, not yours!

Tile can be removed. There is absolutely no reason to accept that level of slovenly work or pay for it. It needs to be redone at the contractor's expense.
