katgarr - congrats on your build! We, too, had to choose our selections upfront...the roof was a challenge for us too! We used an Arkansas field stone sample to select our roof color...and then, when the actual stones arrived, we had to re-think our roof choice...the sample board was much different than what came out of the quarry! Here is a photo of our roof with our stone, chicago brick and sienna driveway...we used Certaineed Weathered Wood - we looked at the Owens driftwood too.....they are similar.
I know you are looking for a warm gray roof, but I thought a photo of our home with Driftwood would help!

I've gotten a kick out of how very different CertainTeed Weathered Wood can look depending on the house color chosen. It can look light brown, dark brown, dark gray ... so many variations. Because of that, I chose Weathered Wood but decided on the Independence line over the Landmark line because it offered a certain dimensional look I was after.

I would definitely search houzz.com to see the options on various homes, and also ask your lumberyard for addresses of homes that used certain products so you can view them in person.

Spottythecat (love that name) your house looks great thanks for the picture! That's the look we are going for. My concern is exactly what you said ..sample boards look different. Many of the weathered wood roofs we've seen have not been CertainTeed that may make a difference.

Jujubean I've based many of my decisions on houzz. You are so right it's a great place to get inspiration. Unfortunately the pictures don't always match the actual color. I thought I wanted rustic slate until I saw it on a home here. I will definitely ask our lumber yard for addresses.
