AC vents

I'am living in a 2 strory single detached house. We have a central AC sytem. AC vents are 8"x8" and can be closed. Does it make sense to seal the vents with a polystyrene sheet during winter month.

What is the heat loss through the AC vents?. Is it going to make a big difference?

A lot of people ask about covering registers. If you can feel cold air coming in, covering them will save energy. The Deflecto company makes a magnet cover that will self attach to metal registers, supply or return, but only comes in two sizes. You can google magnet register covers and buy online or Home Depot sometimes carries them. Make sure you remove all the covers before starting the furnace or you could damage the blower motor.
