Vinyl flooring as wall covering?

we are doing a frugal repair/remodel at the vacation house. The walls in the kitchen over the sink and stove need work done. Tile would be nice but expensive. We have some quality vinyl flooring left over from our home redo. Is it feasible to put that on walls?
