Converting old kids room to guest room

I have a guest bedroom that used to be a kids room. Red paint on bottom of wall with a blue chair rail and painted white on top of wall. Would like to paint in walls using gray tones. Any suggestions on colors to paint using the existing chair rail!? Also any tips for painting the chair rail without having to remove it from the wall?

I don't recommend removing the chair rail from the wall, and white goes with just about everything. Simply use painters tape to mask off the top and bottom before you paint the walls. I would strongly suggest you prime the red with at least one coat before painting.
