when is it too late to paint exterior house - in the northeast?

Is it a general rule that exterior painting should be no later than the end of October?

It's already the end of sept. Should I wait til the spring?

I have a 1880 house with upper 2 floors shingled. Thank you!

Just go by the application temperature recommendation on the paint can.

I live in the northeast and have seen lots of painting in the past few weeks. It's still pretty warm here (temps in the 70s), so I think you're good for at least another month. I think the general rule of thumb is not to go below 50 degrees. I personally would not push it beyond late October because you don't want to apply the paint only to see the temperature drop below the recommended temp.

Be sure to use a paint that is formulated for lower temps (35F) and quick drying to avoid evening and morning dew. SW Resilience is one example.
